A Book is a Friend
A book is a friend. A friend that can take you away to far places as they tell you stories of fantastic and horrible times, commenting on the stories as you scribble away in the margins. You practically go everywhere with them and you stay up late together. Some only stay for a little while but you enjoy every page with them. You never stay with one kind of book. You probably have one that is dramatic and gossips, one that’s a hero and dashingly handsome, one that is full of sorrow and makes you weep, and one that perhaps bores you to sleep. They come in different forms, too. Ones that are sturdy and dependable for a long time, ones that are traveling companions that don’t take up much room. My personal favorites are the ones that are always there and molding to the way you take care of them. They all also have their own aromas and scents. Each one is comforting in their own special ways. Each one brings you back to another memory. It’s important to always surround yourself with books. they are a healthier and more traditional way of getting entertainment and is the best kind of entertainment that allows you to wonder and day dream. Just like Victor LaValle makes an excellent point that when you have a book you don’t just bond with it, you become in a relationship with the writer. The writer spent months or years of their time to produce a companion just for you. I agree with Nancy Jo Sales, too. Books will never go away because each story is unique and there is always something more to share with the world and there is always more friends you can add to you long list of companions. Books show us that time is passing but it gives us a way to live our lives as well as share the experiences of another; and books will always be a friend you can count on to take you away from a bad day.

I really like your last sentence; it pulls so many of your ideas together. Nice job of showing the analogy and describing what reading is.
